RADA On-Farm Water Management Unit – Quick and Immediate Response
The RADA On-Farm Water Management Unit was dubbed the quick and immediate response team as the Unit took decisive action in providing much needed assistance to farmers of the Red Lands Production and Marketing Organization in Redlands Clarendon.
On Thursday, June 18, 2020, at a brief Handing Over Ceremony The Red Lands PMO received 1000 feet conveyance system and 3 rolls of 50mm (100) polyethylene hose and fittings to assist in repairing sections of the irrigation system that was damaged in a recent bush fire.
Initially this conveyance system which moved water from Bullhead Mountain to a storage tank (capacity 50000 gallons) was put in place through a grant donation by the Peace Corps in 2016. The system is used to serve 60 farmers within the community who produce crops to include lettuce, cabbage, pak choi, irish potato and are also involved in broiler production.
Mr. Winston Simpson, Principal Director Field Services, RADA in his remarks at the functions laud the farmers for being resilient especially during this COVID- 19 pandemic and urged the farmers to own, protect and value the noble profession of farming.
