Featured Potential Investors and Farmers met with Minister Hutchinson

Potential Investors and Farmers met with Minister Hutchinson and other agricultural stakeholders (to include Rural Agricultural Development Authority, College of Agriculture, Science and Education) on Thursday, January 12, 2016 at CASE Boxing Plant, Buff  Bay Portland. This exploratory meeting had the objective to discuss the optimal utilization of properties in Lennox, West Portland.

Crops suggested to be produced were: banana, plantain, onion and hot pepper.

Minister Hutchinson encouraged farmers to consider intercropping long-term crops with that of cash crops and urged RADA to ensure that the proper soil analysis is done to guide the choice of produce to be planted. The College of Agriculture Science and Education was also challenged to lend their expertise to oversee Banana, plantain production.

Further discussions and decisions will be made as it relates to irrigation, road network and clearing and lease arrangements.
