Backyard Gardening Kits

Backyard gardening plays an important role in our pursuit of a sustainable and reliable food supply. It is also important for the human well-being and survival. By cultivating a variety of crops in our own backyards, we not only ensure immediate access to fresh and nutritious produce but also actively contribute to bolstering our food security.
In collaboration with the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Mining (MOAFM) has launched the "Backyard Garden Kit" programme aimed at helping residents in urban and peri-urban areas grow vegetables and herbs in small spaces within their backyards or community spaces. This program continues to be an integral component of the New FACE of Food Initiative which focuses on addressing our food insecurity.
This initiative is designed to motivate Jamaicans to take an active role in reducing their food expenses and decreasing their dependence on imported goods. It emphasizes the need to return to a time when individuals cultivated "a little something" for their own consumption in their backyard, highlighting the satisfaction that comes from growing what we eat.
We are encouraging all Jamaicans to become actively engaged in this programme.
